Our Story — The Birth of VProyals

Since becoming natural—relaxer-free, straightener-free, and bleach-free—we realised that most hair products available on the market were not truly made for our crowns. Even though many brands proudly advertised being sulfate- and paraben-free, their formulas still contained harsh chemicals that left our hair dry, brittle, and lifeless.

No matter how many layers of oils and moisturisers we applied, our hair simply refused to thrive. The length retention wasn’t there, and neither was the moisture. That’s when we decided—enough was enough.

We began a journey of deep research into understanding natural hair and the ingredients that truly support healthy growth and moisture retention. The more we learned, the more passionate we became about creating something of our own—something authentic, organic, and completely free from mineral oils and harmful chemicals.

Through our research, we discovered that even products labelled “No Parabens, No Silicones, No Sulfates” often contained other damaging ingredients such as fragrance/perfume, isopropyl alcohol, and petrolatum (mineral oils)—all of which can cause long-term harm to natural hair.

Armed with this knowledge, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We began making products at home, carefully choosing each ingredient to ensure it was natural, organic, and beneficial for textured hair. Once we started using our homemade blends, we saw a drastic transformation—our hair began to flourish like never before.

A Family Vision

VProyals is more than just a brand—it’s a family business built by two sisters with one vision, shaped by two different journeys.

Maria, one of our co-founders, was pregnant at the time and became increasingly concerned about the ingredients in the products she was using. After years of hair damage, she had cut her hair off and decided she’d had enough of chemical-laden formulas. She wanted to create something clean, safe, and gentle—something even little girls could use without worry.

Paula, our other co-founder, began her journey after years of using relaxers that had thinned her hairline and weakened her strands. While at university—where access to Black hairdressers was limited—she started cutting off her relaxed ends and researching natural hair care. She soon discovered that most products on the market contained ingredients that trichologists actually advised against. Determined to find a solution, she began mixing her own oils and butters at home.

During a family holiday, Maria and Paula shared their experiences and realised their visions aligned perfectly. That was the moment VProyals was born.

From Kitchen to Creation

When we returned to the UK in 2018, we created our first batch of products using carefully selected organic ingredients proven to nourish and protect Black hair. We shared them with family members, who absolutely loved them—but they also offered valuable feedback.

To perfect our formula and gain credibility, we sent our products to a professional lab for testing. The lab specialists confirmed the feedback and explained that while our ingredients were natural, their measurements needed fine-tuning to ensure the vitamins and nutrients complemented—rather than counteracted—each other.

We listened, made the necessary adjustments, and after several refinements, our formula was finally perfected and approved. That incredible, nutrient-rich blend became the foundation of VProyals, officially founded in 2019.

More Than a Brand

VProyals is not just a female-owned brand—it’s a family brand. We set out to create something that works for everyone, regardless of age or hair type, and we’re proud to say that we’ve done exactly that.

We also honour Vania DeSousa, who was part of the business in its early stages. Her creativity, influence, and dedication helped shape VProyals into what it is today.

What began as two sisters’ quest for clean, effective, and family-safe hair care has grown into a trusted name for authenticity and excellence—founded, perfected, and loved since 2019.
